Laser Hair Removal
If you have unwanted hair and you're tired of waxing or shaving, laser technology may be the solution. IPL hair removal is a safe and effective way to permanently remove hair by damaging hair follicles beyond repair. This is one of the most common cosmetic procedures in Colorado Springs with very little risk or recovery. Not sure if a laser or IPL procedure is right for you? Here's what you should know.
What Is Laser Hair Removal Colorado Springs?
This non-invasive procedure works by passing a light/laser frequency over the skin and through individual hair follicles. The intense heat of the laser does not permanently damage skin, but it does damage the hair follicle to inhibit future growth.

What to Expect
Prior to your procedure, your hair will be trimmed and the equipment will be adjusted based on your skin color, hair color, hair thickness, and treatment location. A cold gel will be used to protect your skin before the laser device is passed over the treatment area. Depending on the treatment area, the procedure may feel like tiny pin pricks on your skin. During your first few treatments, you may notice a stinging sensation with each pulse of the laser. Sensitive treatment areas like the underarms and bikini area tend to be more uncomfortable. The hair removal process usually takes 5-6 sessions for permanent reduction. Laser hair removal can only target hair that is actively growing. Sessions should be spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart to target new active hair growth.

(Treatment time is usually just 30 minutes, which means you can have hair removal done during a lunch break).

Recovery and Risks
After your procedure, you can expect your skin to feel sunburned for a couple of days. Ice packs and anti-inflammatory lotions can ease any tenderness. For the next month, you should wear sunscreen when outdoors to prevent temporary skin color changes in the treated area.

The treated hair will fall out over the course of the next four weeks. Not all hair in the treatment area will fall out at once as hair goes through several growth cycles that are not all targeted by the laser. While laser treatment does not permanently remove hair in everyone, most people experience permanent results.

Laser treatments are considered very low risk, but potential side effects include blisters, swelling, redness, scarring, and changes in skin color. Skin color changes and scarring are very rare.

Preparing for Your Procedure
At least six weeks before your procedure, limit electrolysis, waxing, and plucking. The laser works by targeting the roots of the hairs which are removed temporarily when you pluck or wax. Sun exposure should also be limited for six weeks. Skin that is exposed to the sun too much will not respond as well to laser treatments. It can also increase complications.
